About Us
Welcome to the Municipality of Grand Lake, where outdoor adventure awaits at every turn. Whether you’re a fishing fanatic, boating enthusiast, thrill-seeking snowmobiler, camping lover, avid hiker, or passionate mountain biker, our charming region has it all. Embracing all four seasons, our diverse range of activities ensures there’s something for everyone to enjoy throughout the year.
Nestled comfortably between the province’s four major cities—Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, and Miramichi—the Municipality of Grand Lake offers the best of both worlds: the serenity of country living and the convenience of nearby urban centers.
The Municipality of Grand Lake comprises of the former Villages of Chipman and Minto, along with their surrounding areas. Chipman boasts a rich history in forestry, while Minto’s legacy lies in coal mining. Our community cherishes these historical foundations, while focusing on economic development and creating new prospects for our current and future residents.
Unlike many other small towns in the province, the Municipality of Grand Lake has experienced a remarkable population increase in recent years. The transformation of Grand Lake Timber, a state-of-the-art sawmill owned by J.D. Irving, Limited, has not only made it the most modern mill in Canada but also, the second largest east of the Rockies. This significant investment has led to a substantial expansion of the workforce, attracting numerous new families to our community, primarily from abroad.
To meet the growing demands of our community, continuous housing investments are being made. With approximately 5,800 current residents, we anticipate a staggering 40% growth in the next few years, reaching over 8,000 residents.
The Municipality of Grand Lake is the perfect blend of natural beauty, exciting activities, and a thriving community.
We look forward to seeing you.
