SUMMARY:Minto's "Meet the Maker" Market
DESCRIPTION:Minto’s “Meet The Maker” MARKET\n\nHappening Saturday\, October 19\, 2024 from 11a-3p at the Minto Legion Branch #12 (16 Legion St in Minto\, NB)\n\nFREE ADMISSION AND PRIZES AVAILABLE!\n\nCome and meet the talented makers who have perfected their unique creations!\n\nYou can expect all products available for purchase to have been held in the hands of the maker at some point throughout the creation process and will only include original designs and artwork.\n\nThere is so much talent out there\, but unfortunately due to not always “fitting in” with current markets happening\, they sometimes get missed! This event is an attempt to bridge the gap between these talented Makers and the audience looking for the “one of a kind”‘\, the “uncategorizeable”\, and lots of things in between!\n\nThis will be a recurring market every May and October at this venue\, so Mark Your Months!

SUMMARY:Witches and Warlocks on the Water
DESCRIPTION:On October 19\, 2024\, Witches\, Warlocks & Ghouls will invade the cove at the Stewart McLeod Park (Turtle Park) in Chipman\, NB. \n\nPaddlers participate at their own risk & PFDs are REQUIRED as safety is the number one priority for this event. Waivers must be signed & parents must sign for anyone under the age of 19. Costumes will be heavy if you fall in AND as you know\, witches melt when they get wet! Plastic garbage bags also make excellent capes if the weather happens to not be ideal (& they will also help to keep you dry) Bring your paddleboard\, kayak or canoe to the gathering point & dressed in costume to join in on the fun in support of a great cause! \n\nWitches & Warlocks on the Water is a fundraising event. There will be individual bins set up at the registration table to collect monetary donations\, personal care items and non-perishable food items for the food banks. \n\nTiffany from the Chipman Community care as well as Sherri from the Resource Center in Minto\, will also be keeping their eyes out in the months prior to this event for witches hats\, cloaks\, etc so reach out to them if you are in need. \n\nDon’t forget to pack these very important items along with your paddleboard\, kayak\, canoe\, witch/warlock costume – warm clothing\, towels\, water and possibly a change of clothes. Dress appropriately for the air and water temperature!\nPlease make sure to take any garbage with you at the end of the day and please be respectful of residents who live in this area (ie: do not block driveways) Terry & Cheyna Lemon have offered overflow parking which will be marked the day of the event. It may be best to unload at the park and move your vehicle there for ease of everyone loading/unloading. \n\nReminder – This gathering is paddle at your own risk. For all non-paddlers\, we would also love to see some witches on the shoreline cheering us on & donations will be accepted by anyone participating or not at the entrance which will be clearly marked. Spectators are welcome to view the event from the main park as witches will be paddling the length of the cove and back but we would ask that you keep the driveway at the park clear for vehicles to load/unload their vessel of choice. \n\nHope to see everyone out for what is sure to be an event to remember!

SUMMARY:Nourishing Communities: Building Food Security in the Capital Region
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a discussion on food security entitled: Nourishing Communities: Building Food Security in the Capital Region. \nFood access\, quality and affordability are pressing concerns for most today.  This event will foster networking to help enhance learning\, connections and inspiration. It will support people coming together to take “stock” of what is happening to advance food security in our region. We will find ways to collaborate and explore new initiatives. \nPlease note\, Part 1 will be held in person and live streamed (Wilmot United Church – YouTube). Please see the list of presenters below. Part 2 will be held in person and virtually in various communities in our region (details to follow). You are encouraged to attend either or both events.  Translation services will be provided. Everyone is welcome! We appreciate you sharing this invitation with others who may be interested in attending. \nWe hope to see you there! \nPanel Presenters \nJill Van Horne is the Director of Food For All NB\, where she has been engaged in food systems and food security work since 2017. Her experience spans national and provincial food and school food action\, Atlantic regional food systems collaboration\, and food and climate-related initiatives. From hands-on community gardening to collaborating with policymakers\, she works to ensure that food issues are considered at home\, in the community\, and at decision-making tables. With a commitment to addressing the challenges faced by communities across New Brunswick\, Jill is continually deepening her understanding of how food can be a transformative tool for social change. \nLiving on unceded Mi’kmaq lands in Moncton\, N.B.\, Jill shares her home with her partner Naason\, daughter Caissy\, and two ginger cats\, Moose and Rusty. While she may not always be the best cook\, her passion for enjoying and sharing good food runs deep. She is grateful for the opportunity to explore and develop community-building efforts that create lasting social change through strong connections and food. \n  \nDr. Mark McKelvie is the Regional Medical Officer of Health for Zone 3\, where he tackles a variety of health issues\, many of which are intricately linked to food insecurity. With experience in public health organizations across New Brunswick\, Ontario\, Newfoundland\, and internationally\, Mark has cultivated a deep understanding of how food security serves as a foundational building block for population health. \nOriginally from Newfoundland\, Mark has been residing in Fredericton with his family for the past four years. Outside of his professional duties\, he enjoys taking advantage of the region’s biking trails\, hiking paths and growing food in his garden. \n  \nSusanne White has had her finger in many pies over the years supporting community efforts to address food insecurity in her role as the ESIC Coordinator for poverty reduction\, including the launch of bulk food buying clubs across the province\, the formation and operation of a provincial school food organization advocating for program funding called Nourishing Minds NB\, trials of food coupon programs through a weekly produce market at the library\, stewardship of Good Food Greater Fredericton\, a food security network and the start up of NB Community Harvest Gardens. Food passions these days include coordinating the St. Mary’s community garden crew\, and making jams\, pickles….and pies. \n  \nKimothy Stewart a former client of Greener Village\, Kimothy was hopeful that someday she would be able to give back to the organization that helped her through difficult times in the past. Through those difficult times\, and with the support of services from Greener Village such as monthly food hampers and Christmas Angel campaigns\, Kimothy was able to return to school to earn not one\, but three diplomas in Business Management\, Public Relations and Paralegal while working both a full time and part time job. Now\, as the Marketing \nCoordinator for Parks New Brunswick\, her passion lies in promoting everything outdoors in our beautiful province. She brings this marketing experience to Greener Village in hopes of helping to build the brand\, grow outreach and be a part of an organization that does so much for the city of Fredericton and surrounding areas where she was born and raised. Kimothy released from the Canadian Forces in November of 2020\, where she served as a Reservist for nine years. \n  \nGail Farnsworth is a UNB graduate. Gail spent time in the school system and then became a trainer for a local company. Now retired\, Gail has become\, with the help of some great volunteers\, a professional volunteer. Gail says that she had no training for this\, she just did it! Kathy Sherwood Orser encouraged her to start a Wellness Committee in Nackawic. Gail says she is sure there were times when she wished she hadn’t agreed! Since 2012\, with Gail’s passion\, Nackawic has started multiple projects\, with a variety of different themes\, and dedicated to a cross section of the population. Her aim; both then and now\, was to create opportunities for our community…. and that you have accomplished Gail!

SUMMARY:Rally for Our Jail!
DESCRIPTION:CALLING ALL RESIDENTS OF GRAND LAKE\n\nThis Thursday we are planning a rally at the Legislature in Fredericton. We are asking everyone who can to come and be at the legislature for 12:30. This is a peaceful rally. The legislature gallery can hold 600 people. Let’s fill this up and show the Premier that Grand Lake wants and deserves this facility!!\n\nThe jail is a means for us to grow and to provide employment for our residents. To keep families here in Grand Lake. Many have invested in the NBCC courses and have planned a career at the jail. It also has a huge impact on our local businesses and their ability to sustain and grow\, again providing jobs here at home. This will affect our whole municipality.\n\nIf you need transportation\, please call the office at 506-327-3383 asap.
